Counting Time

In my upcoming dance piece for MD we get to examine this peculiar and problematic relationship the human mind has with time and its division.

In this piece we’re asking if there’s an alternative to deadlines, while we’re staging a self-contained miniature society where all action is directed by each member’s inner clock that occasionally freeze-frames beautiful moments of movement and at other times causes conflicts.

In co-operation Petri Kekoni Company

Since receiving his MA in dance from the Theatre Academy in 1997, choreographer Petri Kekoni has put together an impressive résumé, most often creating pieces for his own ensemble, The Petri Kekoni Company. His acclaimed works include The Green Armchair (2002/2010), Miniatures (2013), Erratic Block (2018), 369° (2019) and The Glow of Dimness (2021). With his signature group he has also tailored pieces for various unusual venues. For instance, Closer to the Heart (2012) was performed inside the Pyhäsalmi mine. The Arts Promotion Centre Finland has awarded Petri two-year artist grants (2007–11, 2013–17) and The Petri Kekoni Company a ve-year development grant (2020–24).
